Day 2: Into the Forest

Ely Cathedral
9am: This morning is cold and overcast as I set out. I'm heading for Mundford in Thetford Forest and staying in a pub guest room there tonight. I'll be cycling through the enormous Thetford Forest - or at least part of it. Quiet an adventure.
Akshyadeep and I did puja and meditation this morning, and breakfasted together (Sujata had already left for her teaching job in Cambridge). He cheerfully waved me off - taking a video of me as I cycled away from his house.
It was such a lovely stay with them both.
Today is my birthday. I am 66 years old.
6.30pm I am now installed in The Crown Hotel, an old-fashioned pub in the middle of the forest. Showered, changed and ready for some food in the restaurant.
Some lovely cycling today through the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk Fens. Mostly, I was able to stay on quiet B roads. Though I had the wind against me, I was not too fatigued by it and kept a steady pace.
It is refreshing to cycle through many miles of forest.
Yesterday, my knees felt delicate at the end of the day, but today they are OK. Today my wrists are painful. It's just the body getting used to all the cycling.
I did about 35 miles today, I think, passing through Lakenheath,
Hockwold, Weeting, Brandon and Mundford.
During late afternoon, I stopped for afternoon tea at a tea shop in Brandon. I was served by an pleasant Italian woman from Naples who was passionate about Italian food. She told me how to make pasta at home. "British people don't know what real pasta is!" she told me.
She may well be right.
Tomorrow, I head out through Norfolk to Norwich, where I am staying with Sujana. Who knows, he might cook me Italian food....
