Today, we head to Sangli by road. It is known as the 'Turemic City of India'. Also sugarcane.
We are staying at a retreat centre some miles from there - just for one night and then the following day head by train to the vast city of Pune.
Reflecting on our time in the Kolhapur district, it has been intense in every way - most of it very good.
Local people have been so generous in terms of transport, food, hospitality and friendliness. They are a very devoted people.
My body is acclimatising to the heat. At a time when there is snow and ice in the UK, each day here is like a hot summer's day in the UK.
Bharat and Adityakumar kindly drove us five comrades the 47km to the retreat centre (monastery) in the remote hills outside Sangli city.
The journey through the remote and hot Indian countryside was beautiful with a predominance of sugarcane farming. Tractors seen were mainly New Holland with the occasional John Deere. No Mahindra at all.
The retreat centre is still being developed and is already widely used in the area. We were welcomed warmly by the retreat centre team. After a late lunch, AB and I were shown our quarters which are very special and have all mod. cons.
There will be a local event later and already I am enjoying the absolute peace and quiet of this beautiful place.
